Network Security - How Safe Is Your Computer Network?
If you have ever had your identity stolen or had a "hacker" get into your system then you know how vital network security can be. Sometimes your computer may have been broken into and you may not even know right away. Your database and all your data may be at risk and someone could be stealing it right out from under you and you have no idea they are there until it is too late. It does not matter if you are networking from home or from a large corporate facility, your security should always be protected. The same way you protect your home from intruders you need to protect your computer and networking systems. Think about it. How much personal data do you have stored in your home computer such as pictures, resumes, portfolios, stock information or maybe you scan paper into your system such as birth certificates, Social Security information, and the list goes on? How much information do you have from your business and your employees? Not only do you have all the data from your daily operations but you also have employee personal information, tax information, life insurances, stocks, supplies, client data, addresses, phone numbers, Federal ID numbers, bookkeeping information and that list goes on. You need to have some type of network security.
There are people out in our world that think it is fun to see how many computer systems they can breach in a day, if you have network security, they cannot access your information. Otherwise, they can gather any and all the information they need to destroy life, as you know it. Your personal information along with your business information and the people around you involved could be at risk also. The one thing you must do is protect your data, just as you would your home and family. Network security needs to be put in place and keep enabled at all times. There are many different kinds of security systems out there so be sure you check the system requirements and make sure you purchase the security that is right for your needs. Be sure you look at the information you have stored in your system. There may be some things you may want to make hard copies of and store in a safer place such as a safe. Always back up your system and perform regular checks and updates to your security programs to be sure they are operating correctly. Be sure to compare not only prices but also gather information about different securities. Some security systems will say one thing and do another and they are not all on the up and up. Just as anything else, check them out. |
