Can You Install A Network Router?

Some may be familiar with what a network router is or what it does. Some of us have no idea. If you receive your Internet from Cable or your phone service through VOIP or through your computer then you probably have that little box sitting somewhere near your computer. That is your router box to receive your signals for your services. That little box connects you with the servers from your Cable Company or VOIP phone server company and enables you to have these types of services.

A network router can be taught different addresses and connect too many Local Area Networks and is capable of directing traffic to and from those networks. In effect, it can stop traffic jams. When data packets come through it will check against a list of addresses. Depending on where on that list that address is determines whether the data packet will go through or not. This is to use the most efficient path to send the data. If your router is set to have a limit of 10Mb that limit is absolute and cannot be gone over. When more people log on and some computers slow down and seem to almost stop, that is because that limit has been reached.

One way to break the bandwidth limit up is to create smaller Local Area Networks. When this is done, the network router does not have to work so hard and computers work faster and smoother without all the slowing down that can sometimes happen. Originally, a Wide Area Network was used then the Local Area Networks came into play. Breaking the networks into smaller areas seems to provide better networking conditions and enables our systems to run faster. There are different types of routers to fit every size and type of networking you do.

Whether you are a large corporation or just browsing the internet from home there are different sizes and types of network routers to fit any system. If you spend a lot of time transmitting via wireless there are routers for you also. As with anything else you purchase be sure to shop around. Some routers require special adapters that can get expensive. If you plan to purchase a router from your cable company, they will use firewalls that you will need to be aware of. If you are setting up networking from your home check the system requirements and make sure, you have all the adaptors needed to install your router. There is no perfect or ideal router out there. Shop around for what you and your system need.
