When you received your first computer and hooked it up you may have followed a LAN Network Diagram to get you connected to the Internet. LAN stands for Local Area Network and would be a local Internet provider for your area. Many were using a dial up which was cheaper to use at the time but very slow when there were a lot of people trying to get online. Then came DSL and Cable high speed Internet. Now we have wireless devices that can go where you go.

There may also be a network switch for adding more room for your equipment and connecting it to the routers. Maybe you are connecting to a company or large server and there is a router for that too. Yes, you guessed it routers are everywhere. Cell phones use different types of routers. Routers send a signal to a base station, which decodes the signal then sends it out on the best path.

Whether you are working from a dial up connection or high speed wireless connection, with the help of a LAN Network diagram, there is a router navigating a path for the information to travel to and from its destination. When transmitting over the Internet always be sure your information is secure. We have personal information stored on our systems such as pictures, resumes and maybe even financial information such as tax information or the information of our employees. Make sure you have a good back up system and it is working correctly. Always up date, check your virus protection, and make sure your security protection is checked regularly. Make sure all these features are enabled to protect your information and your system.
